Like every other kid on the block, I also grew up watching all types of martial arts movies and was particularly drawn to Kung Fu. Although I was never allowed to train in any Martial Art, I did learn Tae Kwon Do briefly in 2002. As time passed, I lost interest and reverted back to keeping fit and active through various other sports including tennis, soccer, and weightlifting.
In the summer of 2014, I came across Practical Wing Chun and went to the introductory classes with Sifu Jack Leung. A class that ultimately changed my perception, encouraged and peaked my interest in learning this art. Through the explanation of the theory and the practical applications of each technique, I was able to conclude that this particular self-defense system is direct and extremely effective. Additionally, the culture of the school, concept of teachings, and ideologies of the system, I found were relatable not only on a personal level, but also professionally as well.
It wasn’t long before I knew this was the right school and decided to further my understanding and dedication to the art in becoming an Instructor. After assisting in numerous classes ranging from Kids Fit, Griffith University and Brisbane/ Gold Coast, I became a Certified PWC Instructor in December 2015 for SLT Level.
I am currently onto my second form of Chum Kiu and am excited by what the future holds. Not only for my ongoing Instructor training, but also for the school. I look forward to being a part of it for many years to come and passing my knowledge to the next generation.
